THE LEADING INTERIOR DESIGNERS AND STUDIOS SHAPING THE UAE

Six creative voices defining a new era of interiors across the Emirates

The United Arab Emirates has become one of the world’s most dynamic environments for architecture and interior design. Few markets combine the scale of development, international influence and cultural diversity found across the Emirates, creating an environment in which designers are constantly challenged to rethink how people live, work, dine and travel.

But the country’s design story is no longer simply about spectacle.

The UAE’s most compelling interiors increasingly place experience at the centre of the design process. Residential projects are becoming more personal, hospitality environments more immersive and workplaces more responsive to wellbeing, flexibility and collaboration. At the same time, there is a growing interest in local craftsmanship, materiality and cultural references interpreted through a contemporary lens.
This evolution has produced a remarkably diverse design community. Some practices have built their reputations through hospitality and F&B; others have become recognised for private residences, workplaces or architecture-led projects. Their visual languages may differ considerably, yet the strongest share a common understanding: an interior should not simply be beautiful. It should have purpose, character and a relationship with the people who experience it.

For this special feature, ArchInteriors Magazine presents six of the creative voices and practices contributing to the UAE’s evolving design landscape. They represent different approaches to contemporary interiors, but together they reveal the breadth and maturity of design in the Emirates today.

Pallavi Dean, Founder & Creative Director, Roar

1. PALLAVI DEAN ROAR

Pallavi Dean
Founder & Creative Director, Roar

Pallavi Dean is one of the most recognisable contemporary design voices to emerge from the UAE. An architect by training, Dean founded Roar in Dubai in 2013, developing the practice around an approach that connects design with psychology, behaviour and the experience of the user.

Roar now works across architecture and interior design, with projects spanning workplace, hospitality, education, retail, residential and community environments. The studio says it has completed more than 350 projects across the region over the past 12 years.

Dean’s strength lies partly in her refusal to rely on a single visual formula. Instead, Roar’s projects respond to the people and purpose behind each brief. The studio describes its philosophy as a balance between a creative, instinctive side and a more measured approach to user experience.

That philosophy has proved particularly relevant in the UAE, where the way people work, socialise and inhabit spaces is changing rapidly.

The Research Technology & Innovation Park at the American University of Sharjah, designed by Roar, translates the ancient Falaj irrigation system into a contemporary architectural and interior narrative.
Mezza House in Dubai, redesigned by Roar, combines contemporary detailing with a warm hospitality atmosphere, creating an elegant setting for Lebanese dining.
The Nursery of the Future by Roar explores how interior design can support learning, curiosity and children’s emotional development through playful yet carefully structured environments.
SensAsia Stories by Roar explores wellness through a layered interior of tactile materials, atmospheric lighting and carefully considered spatial transitions.
Roar’s Jaipur Rugs Dubai showroom turns the display of handcrafted textiles into an immersive spatial experience, bringing colour, texture and craftsmanship into the architecture.
Paul Bishop, Founder & Creative Director, Bishop Design

2. PAUL BISHOP BISHOP DESIGN

Paul Bishop has been an influential figure in Dubai’s hospitality and experiential design scene for more than two decades. He founded Bishop Design in 2004, and the practice has since developed an extensive portfolio across hospitality, restaurants, bars, retail, commercial and residential environments.

Bishop’s interiors are often defined by atmosphere.

Rather than treating the interior as a neutral background, his projects frequently make the space itself part of the experience. Lighting, circulation, materiality, furniture and architectural gestures work together to establish a distinctive identity.

This approach has particular resonance in Dubai’s hospitality sector, where restaurants and destinations increasingly compete through the complete experience they offer.

The Theatre at VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates, transforms the conventional cinema environment into a more theatrical and immersive destination through Bishop Design’s distinctive use of colour, artwork and material.

AMJAD HOURIEH & FIRAS ALSAHIN
4SPACE DESIGN

3. AMJAD HOURIEH & FIRAS ALSAHIN 4SPACE DESIGN

Founded in Dubai in 2013 by Amjad Hourieh and Firas Alsahin, 4SPACE Design has developed into a multidisciplinary practice working across hospitality and F&B, retail, offices and residential environments.

The studio’s approach is deliberately integrated. Interior design, architectural consultancy, project management and turnkey delivery are brought together within a single structure, allowing the design concept to remain closely connected to its execution.

That integration is particularly valuable in commercial environments, where design has to perform as well as communicate a brand.

4SPACE has developed a strong reputation for concept-driven spaces in which architecture, identity and operational requirements are considered together.

Ellen Søhoel, Founder, XBD Collective

04. ELLEN SØHOEL
XBD COLLECTIVE

Ellen Søhoel founded XBD Collective in 2015, establishing a multidisciplinary architecture and interior-design consultancy with offices in Dubai, London and Kochi.

The practice works across residential, hospitality, commercial and retail projects, with an emphasis on creating individual solutions shaped by the architecture, context and requirements of each client.

XBD has become particularly recognised for its luxury residential work in Dubai. The firm’s approach often extends beyond interiors into architecture, lighting, landscape and other disciplines, creating a more complete design narrative.

This integration is increasingly important in Dubai’s high-end residential market, where the distinction between architecture and interior design is becoming less rigid.

KRISTINA ZANIC, KRISTINA ZANIC CONSULTANTS

05. KRISTINA ZANIC
KRISTINA ZANIC CONSULTANTS

Kristina Zanic brings an international perspective to the UAE’s hospitality and lifestyle design sector. Her Dubai-based practice works across hospitality, dining, wellness, commercial and residential environments, with a portfolio of more than 300 projects across 20 countries.

The studio’s work is distinguished by its layered approach to design. Material, lighting, furniture, art and craftsmanship are brought together to create spaces that are intended to engage the senses rather than simply provide a visual backdrop.

In the UAE, this approach is particularly evident in projects where contemporary hospitality is combined with references to local culture.

The refurbished lobby of Anantara Downtown Dubai by Kristina Zanic Consultants creates an urban sanctuary through natural materials, abundant greenery and a dramatic sculptural chandelier.
The transformation of Sheraton Mall of the Emirates by Kristina Zanic Consultants introduces a brighter, more contemporary guest experience inspired by the hotel’s position at one of Dubai’s key urban crossroads.

Sneha Divias, Founder, Sneha Divias Atelier

6. SNEHA DIVIAS
SNEHA DIVIAS ATELIER

Sneha Divias brings an architectural sensibility to interior design. Born in Portugal, she holds a master’s degree in architecture and specialised in interior design at New York University before establishing her Dubai-based atelier.

The studio works across residential, hospitality and commercial projects and describes its approach as concept-driven, technically rigorous and focused on the emotional experience of the user.

Divias’s interiors often demonstrate that luxury does not have to depend on visual excess.

Material contrasts, carefully considered proportions, natural light and precise detailing create richness without overwhelming the architecture.

BEYOND THE IDEA OF LUXURY

The work of these six designers and practices reveals how dramatically the language of UAE interiors has evolved.

Luxury remains an important part of the market, but its definition is becoming more nuanced. Exceptional materials and craftsmanship still matter, yet clients are increasingly looking for something beyond visual richness: comfort, individuality, wellness, functionality and a meaningful connection with place.

For designers, that means responding to increasingly complex briefs.

A private residence must accommodate the individual rituals of its occupants. A restaurant needs to establish a recognisable identity while operating efficiently. A hotel must create an emotional experience while meeting the demands of a highly sophisticated international guest. A workplace must balance collaboration, privacy and wellbeing.

The best interiors solve these challenges without making the solution feel obvious.

They create spaces in which function and beauty appear to belong to the same idea.
