Gerbou presents a contemporary interpretation of Emirati hospitality through an interior rooted in local culture, craftsmanship and materiality.
Designed by Kristina Zanic Consultants in collaboration with Tashkeel, the restaurant occupies a renovated 1980s building with traditional Emirati architectural characteristics. The project accommodates nearly 200 guests across indoor and outdoor spaces, shifting from a casual daytime atmosphere to a more refined evening dining experience.
The interiors combine natural materials, brushed metals and tactile finishes with locally inspired patterns. Amber, emerald and teal accents add colour, while bespoke elements developed with Tashkeel and UAE-based designers reinforce the project’s emphasis on local creativity.
The design also explores Emirati maritime heritage. Fish-patterned surfaces, rippled bronze ceilings and a pendant made from discarded fish scales reference the UAE’s fishing and pearl-diving traditions while reinforcing the project’s sustainable design approach.
